Today I have a bit of a break from the All the Wedding Blogging I've been doing lately -
Last week Tash from Dear Me, emailed me to ask if I would be interested in joining in a "blog-game". The idea being that each blogger puts forward a word and then she will draw one of them and each of the participating bloggers will write a blogpost on that particular word. I said I was keen to join in (and also this post buys me some time to organise all the wedding posts I have lined up haha)... so today I am sharing a blog post inspired by the word:
Life, Loves and Growing Up:
First book that made me cry: Goodnight Mr Tom - Michelle Magorian.
First Valentines Day Gift I ever received: A box of chocolates in my lift-up desk in Standard 2 (Grade 4). I was new to the school (having come from a very rural school in Zululand). I was so embarrassed I threw the whole box in the dustbin.
First thing I ever won: Interschool Gymnastics Competition. Yep, that's me lying on the floor in the front. In both pictures. I was an über gymnast back in the day - made the Natal Squad shortly after that interschool competition. Defs gonna see if I can still work those moves.
First teasing from a boy I ever encountered: A boy called Sean calling me Brace-Face and Metal Mouth when I had braces when I was 12. What a jerky little pipsqueak.
First boy I ever kissed: Manfred Ing. I was 15.
First "real make up" I ever owned: Something Blue. With Sparkles. They called it 'eyeshadow' but it was really just self-adhesive glitterchunks. Beautiful.
First boy I ever dated 'seriously': Warren Dyer. Who is now my husband - WOOP! It's a long story.
First Car I had: Blue Nissan Micra - a 21st birthday gift from my parents.
Holidays, Travel and Experiences:
First international holiday I went on: 1999 - Family holiday to Australia.
First time I traveled internationally with no parents: Standard 8 (Grade 10) to England on an international school exchange.
First time I ever went skiing: In South Korea, December 2010. It didn't end well.
First time I ever went paint-balling: Rhodes University on a Team Adventure-Challenge Day. I was so scared I nearly wet myself.
First time I went to a movie by myself: South Korea some time in 2010. It's very therapeutic. You should try it. (I also once accidentally went to a movie that was entirely in Hindi. With Korean Subtitles. I didn't understand a thing. But I ate the popcorn.)
First time I went Surfing: Lancelin Surf Camp, Australia. 2007. I got first-degree burn in my face for not putting on enough sunscreen. My whole face swelled up and my lip was so swollen I couldn't eat or swallow for two days. Don't do that kids.
First time I've gotten sick of traveling: January 2012 - backpacking Asia with my brother. We had been backpacking for almost 6 weeks already; Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos - which was awesome but after 6 weeks I was totally ready for a cupboard and a proper hot shower. With Soap.
Social Media, Blogging and Etc:
First Picture I ever instagrammed:
Christmas decorations at the academy I worked at in South Korea.
First Blog Post I ever wrote for indieBerries: Oh my soul its terrible.
First Blog Post I wrote ever: It was part of our social media assignment to keep a blog in our fourth year of journalism at Rhodes. The blog is not public at the moment but I have access to it and this is the first post I ever wrote on it:
First Time I trended on Twitter: I can't remember exactly what I said, but it was during the Royal Wedding. I made some delightfully witty comment about Harry and his Ginger Hair. It was tweeted and re-tweeted and re-tweeted etc.
First magazine indieBerries was ever featured in: Cosmopolitan - The Hot List. January 2011.
First Tweet I ever sent: I went back to try and find it, but it appears twitter doesn't keep all your tweets. You can go back in your own timeline if you don't believe me, but you'll waste half an hour of your life.
First blog I was ever introduced to: How About Orange introduced to me by my friend Laura. I don't read it all that often any more.
Husband & Wife:
The first date we ever went on: It was to the Rat & Parrot in Grahamstown. We had pizzas.
My first Facebook message ever to Warren: (We weren't together at the time - he was overseas doing a ski season in Austria, I was in my final year at Rhodes) - Facebook had only recently come out - (or at least I had only recently joined it):
Our first kiss: 8 Warren Street, Warren's digs in Grahamstown. In the kitchen. After a formal dinner.
The first (sober) encounter after the first kiss: I was on the way to a drama movement prac in a pair of bright pink tights, (suitable for drama movement pracs and not much else) when I accidentally bumped into Warren for the first time since "that night". We said our awkward hello's. After my drama prac, there was a message on my phone from him, telling me how much he liked my bright pink tights...
The first international trip we took together: We traveled to Thailand - in October 2008.
The First time he told me he loved me: We were standing outside my Rhodes University Residence, JK House - he had brought me back from (probably a movie) date. He told me he loved me, I thanked him politely.
The First time I told him I loved him: I don't remember, but it wasn't after the aforementioned movie date. haha
The First time I knew it was forever: He was standing on the platform of a train station, with my bags, somehow in the only beam of sunlight (i know, right?). I had gone to visit him in London so that we could decide one way or another whether our relationship was going to move forward or move apart. It was in that one randomly specific moment, that I just knew.
Other participating blogs: Tails of a Mermaid, Raising Men, Dear Me, Midlands Musings and The Reluctant Mom
