A little Love Story...

A few weeks ago, my cousin's girlfriend sent me a message to ask if she could "hi-jack" indieBerries for the day because she had a special message to share with her boyfriend (my cousin). Of course I was happy for her to share her story and her cute cartoons! So without any more rambling from me... I'm handing over to Jess!

* * * * *

Our Story

In January 2011, a “love story” began…..
You know the kind that begins with a boy and a girl, they meet, fall in love….. all that jazz.
The setting was extremely romantic, classy.... ok let’s call it “unique”. photo keatonjess_zpsdaa7e668.png
An event involving alcoholic beverages – the lube (get your minds out the gutter people!!!!) and tubing – a tube to be taken down a placid, calm, raging river.

So, you have the event.
Now meet the characters:

photo keatonjess5_zpsaeeed82d.png Myself – The Para Girl, I know, “flattering” nickname but I have to be honest. The Para Girl is a sissy, she was not keen on going down this river which she was told would be a “breeze”, she had her drinks, SPF 50 (Scottish skin and all) and was quite happy to just chill while everyone else went down the river. But, peer pressure (and an early start on the vodka), convinced her to go down the river. At this point, whilst waiting at the river bank to go down the river, she was greeted by The Jaffa Boy (aptly named by the fact that he had died his red hair black and it was now starting to grow out, so he inevitably looked like a jaffa cake).
   photo keatonjess2_zpsa86348f6.png
The Jaffa Boy and his cousins (Struan, Wade, Lloyd and Blake - {brother of indieBerries!}) were there in full force, having driven from Newcastle for the event and were donning the most fashionable, sexy, ummm.... well.... they were pink tee-sav’s (because, they’re "ok" with their masculinity).

She was introduced to Jaffa Boy and his cousins, by their mutual friends:
 photo keatonjess6_zps3a42a5fb.png
The Burna (who The Para Girl has known since university drinking social club) and the Farma (who the Jaffa Boy has known since he was a baby). On realizing that these farmer boys had been sensible enough to bring life jackets, The Para Girl very quickly asked if she could steal one for the day, as she was not about to take any chances and being the paranoid person that she was, it put her mind at ease a little. Going down the river, all was great, the river was full they were floating along happily, and every now and again a little jaffa cake head would pop up near The Para Girl’s tube to chat.

 photo Keatonjess3_zps97698157.png
Due to the fact that the river was so full, they arrived at the “end” point very quickly. It was at this point that the decision was made that everyone should float further down the river. On floating further down the river, this is where the "placid, calm river" turned into a raging river. They were due to disembark around a bend, however, everyone came round the bend and was washed into trees, the river was so strong their tubes were pulled out from underneath them (nail biting I know) and some of them were left stranded clinging to trees, including The Para Girl. It was at this point, The Para Girls “knight in shining armour” came to her rescue. The Jaffa Boy swam out, blocked the current and managed to help her ashore….. (I know.... now it’s romantic, right?!!!)
 photo keatonjess7_zps3cda04ee.png
So later that evening, at the party, their two mutual friends had a “bright spark idea”. Much to The Para Girl and The Jaffa Boys ignorance, their two friends had decided that it would be nice if their two friends could “be friends”. At this point The Burna and The Farma proceeded to weave their web of Matchmaking. The Burna approached The Para Girl to tell her how awesome The Jaffa Boy was and that he was really interested in her. The Farma told the Jaffa Boy a similar story. Sneaky Sneaky. (By the way, Para Girl and Jaffa Boy only figured this out months later on relaying the story of how they met). photo keatonjess4_zpsd46284a4.png
So, with a bit of dutch courage, the Jaffa Boy and the Para Girl ended up getting together….. It was all great and dandy, the sparks flew, until he actually flew….. away….. the next day…… back to the UK……. Where he lived?!!!!! So, they kept in touch, via the wonderful tools of Facebook and Skype (thank goodness for technology!!!) Then completely out of character, it was decided that The Para Girl should go visit The Jaffa Boy (who was no longer a Jaffa). She flew out to the UK to visit him (AND HIS FAMILY – who, luckily for her, were amazing), he cried at the airport when she arrived (Don’t I just win the double romance points for him?!!!), she spent two weeks there and they realized they were head over heels in love…..
photo keatonjess8_zps76425d87.png This, then prompted a Cross-Continent relationship! Indieberries, you know how much “fun” that is….. {Yes! I most definitely DO!!!!}. After 9 months of back and forth for Jaffa Boy, one of the times planning to arrive in SA a day early and surprising his very sick Para Girl by walking into her room (yes, I thought I was having a drug induced dream at the time!!!), he decided to move to SA to be with her (triple romance points). It’s been 3 years, there have been ups and downs, but in the end it has all been worth it!
photo Keatonjess9_zps53f18201.png Happy Anniversary to my Jaffa Boy, I love you more than words can express, hopefully immortalizing our love story in your cousin’s blog, will give you an idea of just how much……
All My Love

 Your “Para Girl”
 Jess
xxxx

Happy Anniversary you little love birds - hope the next three years are even better than the last!

People of Awesomeness: October/November

 photo peopleofawesomeness_zps7c02d3ba.jpg
It's the first Wednesday of the month - which means I have the privilege of introducing you to this month's sponsors on indieBerries!

 photo mosslettercompany_zpsaf35c4cb.jpg
The Moss Letter Company is run by Jodie (and her husband Neil) after they struggled to find the Moss Letters that they were after for their own wedding. I adore these Moss Letters and they can be used for any purpose or function! (Although I would admit that "Mr & Mrs" on a wedding table would look gorgeous!) But I also LOVE the look of them in the home - like the B letter against this chocolate wall in the bathroom - LOVE!

I love her manifesto: "I believe in fairy tale romances... I believe we should all raid our grandparent's music collectio... Stinky cheese should be celebrated and eaten daily!" (You can read the full version here). The Moss Letter Company is a relatively new business (and already I can see it picking up massive speed!) and I have really been enjoying reading The Moss Letter Blog - especially the creative business posts (4 Lessons I am learning quickly in my business). I love the fact that this company is sprinkled with real and genuine personality - I mean, who doesn't love a good iPod shuffle war? You can snap up The Moss Letters in letters, words or symbols. Go Shop!

(ps: The Moss Letter Company is my main sponsor this month - so you can look forward to a grassy-inspired cartoon coming soon!)

One thing that I have loved about opening up indieBerries to sponsorship is that I have discovered some awesome new blogs from around the world. In the two months that I've had sponsorship on indieBerries, I've been sponsored by people of all different nationalities (American, Filipina, South African) and hanging out all over the globe (London, Singapore, South Africa {Australia coming soon!}) and today I would like to introduce you to Kim - from A Moving Story -  an American hanging out in Mexico.

I love Kim's story: high-flying corporate climber who packed it all in when her husband came home one night and asked if she'd move to Mexico. In her own words: "Goodbye job. Goodbye paycheck (I will miss you the most)". She writes about her adventures of expat life in Mexico and the conversations and encounters she describes with her maid are quite humourous! I also love the stories that she tells of her kids: "Good news! He has good manners!". I have been obsessed with Kim's FULL BLOWN Halloween party decor. (Like seriously, it has made me want to throw a massive Halloween party just to paint our house blood). I'm joking. Kind of. Go check out her blog

 photo femmegypsey_zpsf40833f0.jpg
First off - what I really like about Femmegypsy is that all her posts start with an apt quote. Somehow it makes it feel like you are reading a novel and each blog post is like a new mini-chapter. The Lifelist is one of my favourite things on this blog - a list of personal goals for different time frames: Accomplished goals, the 5 years' goals, the next 10 years' goals, 10 + years. Some really awesome things on the list too - "Go on a cooking course in France", "Become a yoga teacher", "set up a scholarship fund" - go check them out!

I have mentioned before that what I love about true blogging is it's diary-like nature and raw honesty. Femmegypsy is completely that kind of blog. In the blog post titled "We sincerely regret to inform you that you are a failure..." you can see exactly what I mean - documenting life: the good, the bad, the ugly and the plastic-surgery-induced beauty.

Lulu || Me || Bobbi

Over the recent few months, I have come to know Lulu - (the blogger behind Berry Diaries), much more since we have been working together (along with Bobbi) to bring you The Photo Hunt. Getting to know Lulu has been amazing and she has really had quite a "calming/peaceful" influence in my life. Sometimes, I think people come into your lives at the exact right moment - and this is definitely the case with Lulu. Lulu is currently studying for her Yoga Teacher Training exam and I am her "student-guinea pig" which I am actually really enjoying! It has been so inspirational to me to hear about her Yoga Journey and her mission for happiness (So much so, that I am considering taking the course myself).

Lulu is a physiotherapist based in London and I have been encouraging her to write more blog posts about things that we really should know/be doing to take better care of ourselves. I have been loving these posts! (How & Why you need to do Pelvic Floor exercises and those things that perhaps you don't reaaaaallly want to ask anyone in person). It's refreshing to have a blog that is sprinkled with really useful and helpful information. (You can see the full list here). Lulu - you have really inspired me to live a better life!

 photo mediccopy_zps32c78906.jpg

I would say that there is something SUPER liberating about writing a blog anonymously. Basically - you can say whatever the fuck you want. I actually came across Little Miss Medic a few years ago when I was living in Korea and let me tell you - her stories are HILARIOUS. Her "rantings as a female doctor" often include conversations with CRAZY patients (which is obviously where the anonymity comes into play). If you want an epic lol - have a peek over at her "things I've done" page - some of them including "owned a lemonade stand as a child, drawn on the walls with lipstick, performed a caesarian section, given cocaine to a child - accidentally."

Honestly - the snoopy-voyeurist in me LOVES these posts - (READ THIS) and then quickly revert back to Lulu's post about HOW TO DO YOUR KEGELS. Even just scrolling through this blog's topics (eyeliner, nincompoop , grossest thing, faeces, Kate Middleton) will have you in stitches - which is great! Because I'm pretty sure that Little Miss Medic could sew you right back up!

{Cartoon} It's a HOOT(ers)

This story was sent in by an indieBerries reader who told me the story of what happened one night a short while ago.. somewhere in South Africa  - and it all began in a Hooter's Pub...

 photo hooter1_zpscd824dbc.jpg photo hooter2_zps86cba0fa.jpg photo hooter3_zps2d41f7f7.jpg photo hooter4_zps644e2274.jpg photo hooter5_zpsb893860c.jpg  photo hooter7_zpsa62c4fdc.jpg

Yep. ALL of them.
ESPECIALLY when they give you the drinks for free.

At which point the brunette, the red-head and the blonde decide that it is time to leave Hooters.
(Call it "they decide to leave" or "they were gently ushered out" whatever.) The brunette, the red head and the blonde decided that it was time for a midnight snack -  photo hooter11_zps2b1bd8fc.jpg
They drove to the land of the midnight snack and ordered their feastings:

However,

 photo hooter12_zps04af0f81.jpg photo hooter13_zpsb6c84dfd.jpg photo hooter14_zps4f175557.jpg

Anywhoo.

We don't know how the burger and chips and all the sauces ended up at the bottom of the bag.
But you've all been there -

Don't judge.

Finally back at home the brunette, the red head and the blonde were sitting chatting when all of a sudden -

 photo hooter15_zps94f6fdd7.jpg photo hooter16_zps128b2c59.jpg photo hooter17_zpsfbb5a8d1.jpg

Red head had somehow managed to fall off the bed and lodge herself in between the wall, the floor, the bed, knees, arms, legs, burgers. I got a nose-bleed just reading about it.

Amish Girl and Worldly Boy

In amidst all the wedding posts (loads more on that to come!) and the moving house etc (Warr and I move into our first husband-and-wife house together today!). I have received such lovely emails, comments and messages from indieBerries readers - thank you all so much! It means so much to me (and i forward some of them to The Warr - he loves to have his inbox flooded), and it means so much to him too. One particular lovely lady wanted me to share her love story as a gift for her boyfriend's birthday - which I agreed to post today -

So I present to you -

 photo amish2_zps81f0e1e4.jpg photo amish1_zps99832880.jpg
One day a long long time ago, "Amish girl" decided to join her mother when she went to tea with one of her good friends.

 photo amish3_zps975288cd.jpg
When she arrived at the tea party "Amish Girl" met her mother's friend.
She also met her mother's friend's neighbour:
 photo amish4_zps842d51ed.jpg
After she arrived at the tea party, her mother's friend's neighbour (i know)
suddenly exclaimed -

 photo amish6_zps7f1bd433.jpg
 photo amish7_zpsa160a208.jpg photo amish8_zpsa6a04f14.jpg photo amish7_zpsa160a208.jpg   photo amish10_zpseae9929c.jpg

Amish girl didn't really think too much about this, since we was about to head off to South Korea with another boy she was dating. But a year and a half went by and so did the boyfriend. About one month before she was due to return to South Africa, she received a phone call from her mother's friend:

"Well Amish Girl! Now that you are single - you simply HAVE to meet my neighbour's son! I just LOVE him and you will too! Just trust me!"
Amish girl tried to act nonchalant. But (like any girl), she weaseled his name out of the match-maker-geriatric and stalked the
 photo amish11_zps53c1058e.jpg
outta the boy they thought was her perfect match.

When she finally arrived back in South Africa, the two geriatric-cupids organised a sneaky tea-party (braai) so the two could finally meet -

 photo amish12_zps5828b583.jpg photo amish13_zpsdabecfcb.jpg

As fate would have it, The Worldly Boy, had his house broken into the previous day and with all the admin which that entails - he missed the cupid-braai.

DANG WORLDLY WORLD.

But after that, and as how all modern relationships begin, Worldly Boy added her on
 photo amish11_zps53c1058e.jpg
They chatted.
and a conversation began:
 photo amish14_zps045b7abf.jpg   photo amish15_zps186bced8.jpg photo amish16_zpscbcca624.jpg photo amish17_zpse1686e43.jpg photo amish18_zpsb208ca18.jpg

Soon after this, Worldly boy came to Amish's house to pick her up for dinner. They were both not looking forward to it - she thought he was WAY too Worldly and he thought she was a very boring Amish girl that wore wooden buttons on her clothes.

But, in spite of it -

 photo amish19_zpsadaa013a.jpg

But "Amish girl" was still wary of worldly boy and his worldly ways and didn't want to get her heart broken. But she was also intrigued by the boy who she had such a strong connection with.

Then
 photo amish23_zps4c6299bf.jpg

But while Amish girl was working with the poor in India -

   photo amish24_zps9122c9b0.jpg
They had never felt the same kind of spark with anyone else.

And Amish girl realised that she needed to be brave and take the leap.

They went on dates, they pranked the neighbours:

 photo amish21_zpsfd0519b2.jpg photo amish22_zps6b130fb5.jpg photo amish20_zps90cecd69.jpg

they fell in love...
 photo amish25_zps62338437.jpg photo amish26_zps65ba6ec3.jpg photo amish27_zps20209046.jpg

...and the amish girl and the worldly boy, set up by two geriatric cupids,
the testament to opposites-do-attract -
lived happily ever after.

This weekend, Amish Girl and Worldly Boy are heading to Clarens for a belated birthday weekend. I hope you two little lovebirds have a fabulous time! Thanks for reading indieBerries.
smooches! x
