The Photo Hunt - PREPARE YOURSELVES FOR ALL THE FUN!

Our next event for The Photo Hunt is fast approaching (SAVE THE DATE: 1 MARCH 2014!) and we are so excited for all the fun to come! For those of you who don't know - The Photo Hunt is a awesome new networking event for bloggers, photographers and general creatives who are keen to get together for an afternoon of fast paced fun!

The idea is simple: you and your team mates are given one of The Photo Hunt task lists and you then rush around snapping pics off the list NINJA STYLE before the time runs up!

Once we've hit the "TIME UP!" we all reconvene for some some picture sharing and mingling! It's a great way to socialise with like-minded souls! Who knows - you may even -



Apart from getting to meet a whole bunch of rad creative/fun/fabulous individuals, thinking like a creative ninja, honing your picture snapping, being inspired by the awesomeness of other attendees and getting your adrenal glands pumping - the majority of the attendees at The Photo Hunt are bloggers - which means a whole new stash of blogs to add to your blogroll!

Just like our last event - you have the option to sign up as an individual (where we'll team you up with some happy new faces) - or you can round up three of your mates to make a Team of 4 for an afternoon of epic fun! (You and your team may or may not delve into a sneaky beverage or two! It's up to you!)

The main thing to know is that you will be having so much fun mixing with friends old and new that you will hardly even notice that your brain is EXPLODING WITH CREATIVITY.

And isn't that just the most glorious thing?!

The Photo Hunt!

I have been so excited to write this post about the awesome new networking event we launched last Saturday -  The Photo Hunt! For the past month or so, Bobbi, Lulu and I have been working very hard to develop a new spin on the traditional "bloggers-networking" event. The aim of The Photo Hunt is to bring together like-minded people (read: bloggers, photographers, artists, creatives, adventure-spirits) for a morning of fun, photo-snapping and new found friendships. (I originally posted about it here).


There is surprisingly a lot of hard work that goes into creating an event such as this - including (but not limited to) building websites, setting up email accounts, social media accounts, engaging with potential sponsors, collating email addresses, inviting potential participants, creating branding, selecting appropriate venues/times/dates, building an online presence, meetings, deciding on different ideas/formats, finalising the actual running of the event, pricing, printing, numbers, head counts, assigning teams, proof-reading, returning queries, ticket sales, emails, creating task lists, sponsor vouchers, info packs, prizes, presentation, more emails, ordering, financing and post event strategy. Oh, and we also have our own businesses and blogs to run... on the side, ya know.

In spite of all the "stuff" to do and the very short time we had to do it,
I'd say that for our very first event...  we

We met super early, for coffee and breakfast on the day of the event (nerves/game-plan/strategy etc). One of our tasks included finding The Photo Hunt logo other than one that appears in the info pack - so we set out plastering hidden corners of Shoreditch with Photo Hunt stickers before any contestants arrived:



We assigned teams before the actual event so that team members would have the opportunity to engage with their team mates online before they actually meet in person. Because - that's what it's all about: engaging, networking, being introduced to new blogs, having others being introduced to your blog, making friends and transferring your online connections to offline interaction. We devised a fun little game for teams to "pick" their team names from some pre-determined lists. The results were hilar and loved by all!

After we'd handed out our task sheets and info packs to The Photo Hunters and explained some ground rules - they set through the streets of Shoreditch to capture as many of their tasks as they could. I was actually pretty bummed that we weren't doing the Photo Hunting ourselves - so, I decided to get involved anyway -



After The Hunt cut off time - we reconvened for a mini prize giving and the participants (and us) were able to have a bit of a chat and connect with other Photo Hunters over some drinks and nosh.

I am pretty sure positive that everyone had a lot of fun at The Photo Hunt - 

but by the looks of this picture - 

it seems like I'm having the most fun of all.

We had some amazing sponsors onboard for our first event! FalafeLicious (with their delicious fresh Falafels and veggie salads), Milk Tea & Pearl (yummy Bubble Tea for our contestants!), Chobani (re-fueling our Photo Hunters with their protein-powered yogurts) and Camera Couture offering discount codes to our Photo Hunters for their gorgeous camera bags!) We are so lucky to have secured such awesome sponsors for our very first event! HEY!? And we have some very awesome potential sponsors for our next event! Full steam ahead! :)

It was such a fun day out - and we have SO many new ideas, improvements to make, more challenges, new locations, different themes and exciting new add-on activities - we are SO excited for the next The Photo Hunt - we hope to see you there!

Exciting New Project launch! Introducing...

I want to talk about Blogger Meet-ups for a second here. I recently blogged a cartoon about The Anatomy of a Blogger's Meet Up - because let's face it, Blogger Meet-ups can often be painfully awkward. You're about to walk into a room and introduce yourself to a bunch of strangers who technically you already know.


When someone has put their life out-there on the internet - what exactly is the "socially acceptable" amount of information for you to "know" when you actually meet them in person, versus the amount of information that you should pretend to "not-know" in order to not appear like a full-blown stalker?

I digress.

The main thing is - it can be intimidating arriving at a Blogger Meet-up and walking into a room of strangers. {Side Note: Do not be fooled - if you end up going to the same blogger meet-ups, hosted by the same crowd of people, with the same social circles - that is not a Blogger Meet Up. That is dinner with your friends -coincidentally, they may run a blog.}

So here's the thing: people need a reason to engage with others. Bloggers by nature are sharers -they put their lives, words, thoughts, pictures and poetry out on the internet because they want to share. But if you put them all together in a room it can be a smidgeon awkward to approach the person standing next to you in the flesh. (eg: maybe I can just tweet her?) But if you had a reason to walk over and engage "Oh hey, you dropped this!" BOOM: Ice. broken.

So we have been thinking for a little while about a type of Bloggers Meet Up that would encourage interaction with a purpose. An actual (fun) reason for Bloggers to engage, chat and connect. With a little good ol' fashioned TEAM SPIRIT thrown in for good measure. What kind of event could we create that encourages genuine interaction in an awesome, fun and creative environment....

we had to ask ourselves...

 

So... an interactive, engaging and fun event.. with a good dose of picture snapping....

hmmm.....

And then hatched the perfect solution!

 

The Photo Hunt is a new networking event aimed at creating genuine connections between bloggers, photographers, creatives (and anyone else looking to snap a few pics)! When the goal of the day is not superficially-throwing business cards at each other but rather: working together, combining your creative forces, ticking off your picture-snapping task list, racking up adventure points and RA-RAing your team spirit (team outfits optional encouraged) - it creates a fun, engaging and dynamic environment where real and legit interaction can take place.

(The event is loosely based on The Photo Scavenger Hunt I did in South Korea - and it was an unbelievable amount of fun!)
