{Early works: Picasso}

Photobucket
A few weeks ago I was at the Natural History Museum in London and came across the early works of Pablo Picasso. They are very cartoon-esque and at first it was quite hard to believe that these were actually the works of Picasso. Most of the pencil drawings and cartoons had a very Quentin Blake style. Here are a few snaps:

Another awesome thing which lets you create collages using artworks and clothing is Polyvore. Here are a few of the collages which have been created using the later works of Picasso.

DIY: chevron shoes

Photobucket
Today I want to share with you a little DIY I did with a pair of white canvas shoes and a little paint. The chevron stripe is popping up all over the internet these days - especially on pinterest - (you can follow me here) so I thought I would make some of my own  -

Photobucket

What you need:

  • Paint (I was lazy/earth friendly and used acrylic paint that I already had at home- rather than going out and buying everything new. I sealed the acrylic paint at the end with modge podge. You should ideally use a fabric paint)
  • Paintbrush
  • White canvas shoes
  • Scissors
  • Sticky Tape
  • Cardboard
  • Pencil

In order to get the chevron stripes the same size/angle I used a little bit of a cheat method -
PhotobucketPhotobucket

First measure the angle and size of the stripe that you would like, based on the shoe. I wanted to fit in at least three different colours on the toe end of the shoe - so i based the size of the stripe on that. Once I had decided the basic size, I drew a very rough mountain/chevron-type shape onto the cardboard of an old cereal box. Next I cut out the cardboard shape and placed it on the shoe to trace around it. I used the tongue of the shoe as a central positioning guide and traced around the shape in pencil from the toe end. Keep the cardboard chevron shape so that you can get the same pattern every time.
Repeat on the other foot.

Once i had the shape penciled in, I used some ordinary sticky tape to mark off the area to be painted. This helps to get nice clean lines when you are painting.

Next is to pain the colour onto your shoe. Decide before you start painting what colours you are going to be using and in what order. I used a Bronze, gold and bright pink.Photobucket Photobucket
When the paint on the first layer has dried, you can remove the tape (wow! look at that straight line!) and then put your cardboard-chevron-mountain shape on the shoe a little higher up and repeat the process - drawing first with pencil, then taping and then painting.Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
Work your way all around the shoe until you reach the back. You can choose to do a chevron stripe all the way along the shoe like I did, or you can stop once you have finished the toe section and paint the rest of the shoe solid. I stopped the chevron stripe at the very back and painted the back a solid pink to match the shoe tongues.

Don't kid yourself, croco-skin was very last season.

An awesome travel kit with a few of their headliner products including The O-Mega Shower Cream, The O-Mega Body Buff and The Super-Rich Body cream. Don't you love the packaging?! (Im a sucker for well wrapped goods haha).

I've been using the products for about a week now and so far one of my favourites is definitely the Body Buff - It's got a delicious lemony-citrus smell and pumice grains for exfoliation. You rub it all over your body on your dry skin and then wash it off in the shower. The first time I used it, I was genuinely very surprised and impressed at how smooth and soft my skin felt afterwards. Also the bonus of this product is that you use it twice in the first week and once a week there-after so it should last a while. Score. The write-ups on the back of these products are awesome - The Body Buff tag-line: Shed your scales. Anti-croco skin - what did I tell you? Photobucket

Almost all the products contain rich oils like Almond oil, Shea butter and Avocado oil - which not only help to "lock in moisture and throw away the key" but also smell delish too.

"The Boob Tube" is one of Mama Mio's star acts and has won many awards for Best Decolletage Product. The awesome blurb on the back -
Daily use will maintain this beautiful skin and over the years you will be so pleased you took the time to befriend your bust. No crinkles or droop for you - no turtle necks or even turkey necks! You are so wise to daily dose with Boob Tube, feel free to thank us in 20 years.

Yeah, you know the wise thing to do. I've been using it for a week now and I wil say I do like the results. lol. Also all the products in the Mama Mio range are created using ingredients that are perfectly safe to use when pregnant or nursing. (NB Side Note: mom, dad, warren - i am not pregnant.)

The ladies at Mama Mio have given me a product of my choice to give away on indieBerries - and since I've really become quite enamored with my new soft skin courtesy of The Body Buff product - one lucky reader has a chance to win a full-size Shed-your-scales skincare regime.
