Cartoon: CURLING. WHAT IS EVEN GOING ON?!

You guys.

I want to talk about CURLING.

With the Winter Olympics being on and all - husband and I have been watching a bit of the sports on TV and we have come across the phenomenon that is CURLING. Curling. You guys. What KIND of a sport is curling? There is something so car-crashingly absorbing about watching people do absolutely nothing on a piece of ice with two broomsticks. I can't even.

In fact, I replied to a comment about it on Facebook and someone's friend-of-a-friend responded with
"It's like watching an elite lawn mowing competition, yeah nothing happens, but they are the best in the world at making nothing happen in this particular fashion and that's kind of intriguing."
WORD.

So anyway, I thought I would enlighten you with some of my curling tidbits - beginning with a few WAY more exciting things to do than watching Olympic Curling (women's semi-finals today at 5am BTW)

A LIST OF THINGS WAY MORE EXCITING THAN WATCHING CURLING

Actually, watching your grandmother do ANYTHING.

In an attempt to enlighten myself as to the secret wonders of CURLING, I decided to do some research - which I will share with you today. I have found that CURLING is in fact a result of very clever marketing. You see, it is common practice among CURLING MARKETERS to create CURLING images with VERY BLURRY backgrounds - to make you believe that CURLING is some kind of high-speed adrenalin race:

 photo curlinghighspeed_zps102cb14c.jpg

it is not.

Secondly, I have discovered, that in order to be a CURLER (CURLEE? CURLETE?) of OLYMPIC STANDARDS - you must adopt the OPEN MOUTH FACE. Which helps to avert attention away from the actual sport itself -

BEHOLD: THE OPEN MOUTH FACE.

There were way more pictures I could have included, but I think I've made my point.

These two?
 photo training_zps1af62dfb.jpg
They are still in training.

So anyway - husband and I were watching CURLING on TV last Sunday -

AND THAT, my friends, is the secret of CURLING.
and now, i'm off to switch on the semi-finals.

Date Day | Winter Wonderland, Hyde Park

 photo winter5_zpsb78515e3.jpg
As a post "first market" surprise - The Husband had organised for us to go ice-skating at Winter Wonderland in Hyde park yesterday. I have never been to a Winter Wonderland and was absolutely BLOWN AWAY - by the MASSIVENESS of it all.

 photo winter15_zpsb8b0883e.jpg
Our first port of call was a mug of steaming hot Mulled Wine because DELICIOUS. And our second port of call was another mug of steaming hot Mulled Wine, because OBVIOUSLY.
 photo winter1_zpsd71a3793.jpg
There is SO much to see and I can tell you right now, that after 7 hours there yesterday we didn't even see a quarter of it all. I have made The Warr promise that we are going back!

There are so many delicious foodie options to choose from - with quite a heavy German/Bavarian influence - lots of sausages, bratwurst and things with un-pronounceable names such as Schweinshaxe. We settled on a very conventional plate of fat-chips as fuel before our big ice skating debut!

Warren: Are you trying to hide my moustache in a black and white filter?
Me: Yes.
 photo winter12_zps1942b4d6.jpg
Ice skating was SO much fun- it made me feel like a kid again! And bonus of the day - I didn't fall once! (Granted, I was clinging onto husband's sleeve for the majority of the hour.)

  photo winter13_zpsd013bbbc.jpg photo winter14_zps8d372eb4.jpg
yeah you guys! Look at me go!
How cool is this fake snow?!
I know.
Am thinking of shipping a container-load back to South Africa.

 photo winter8_zps381d5b4c.jpg
We wondered around the arcade style games and markets for ages and then met up with some mates of ours for a drink and some nosh at the Bavarian village.

(Can't believe that it was so busy and such a massive performance for a Sunday night.)

Toast your own Marshmallows on this giant open roaring fire -
we are DEFINITELY coming back to do this!!

 photo winter9_zpsafd52960.jpg photo winter7_zpsc587afd4.jpg
Our friends were crazy enough to go on this ride - The man and I watched from the safety of the sidelines - with another mug of mulled wine.
 photo winter16_zps0a930f2d.jpg
We had such an awesome day! Cannot WAIT to go back for more Wonderland fun!
Viva la Christmas Winter in London!

{Cartoon} How to Survive (London) Winter in Six Easy Steps

 photo cold1_zps58d45708.jpg
Step 1: Around bedtime, encourage your lover to jump into bed before you - under the guise of being "extra sweet"
 photo cold2_zps9035216f.jpg
Step 2: Encourage your lover to come closer.

(use your seductive eyes. Throw in words like "handsome")

Step 3:

Step 5: Return to the bedroom

Step 6:
 photo cold12_zpsb7aa4d96.jpg photo cold13_zps41080e67.jpg

As you can tell, it's getting a lot colder in this hemisphere of the world and my little self does NOT love it. We have yet to locate our electric blankets in all the chaos of our house move and considering the husband was walking around in a T-shirt last night, I presume it will be a little while before he lets me strap that thing onto the bed. Anywhoo.

I've been trying to gather ALL my thoughts from The Blogcademy I attended last week and will be posting about my experience and the changes I'm hoping to make around here very soon - (As you can imagine there are lots of things to think about and lots of new ideas that I need to refine - so my head is currently in overdrive. (I actually included "Step 6: switch off the lights" into the cartoon above because last night I fell asleep with the light on, with my face in my Blogcademy workbook. There is a little bit of drool on page 8. Sexy.)

If you know of anyone who is entering a cold phase in their lives (London or otherwise) and needs this handy keep-warm technique - please do share it with them. It works like a charm.

Any other keep-warm techniques I should know about?

Do share.
