7 things

Seven things Sunday-posted from Incheon international airport waiting for my flight-en route to South Africa :)

1. Duty free shopping is FUN. Shopping and time limits and foreign currency? What's not to love?
2. When packing for a trip. Start early. Trust me.
3. Long flights are OBNOXIOUS. Small seats, no leg room, neck cramp, pre-packaged food... Oh so much to look forward to! 24 hours to go...
4. If you are planning on traveling with your handy neck pillow-you should probably find it before you have to leave :(
5. Airports are places of great excitement-unless you miss your flight.
6. Not putting your laptop in it's separate laptop bag but in a laptop sleeve inside your hand-luggage bag under a bunch of other stuff is not the smartest move. Just ask the airport security people.
7. Do NOT make airline terrorist bomb jokes. I repeat. Do Not.

I will be on South African soil 7am Monday-local time. 8 months since I've seen my family! Yay me!!! ;)
Hope you all have a great nights sleep tonight- I certainly will not.

3 YEARS

As of today I have been living in South Korea for 3 years. Wowzer time flies. My original plan was to be here for one year only - and even before I left South Africa the first time, I went into mild panic...
Photobucket

A WHOLE YEAR!!?! THAT'S SUCH A LONG TIME!!!

Turns out a whole year is not such a long time and in any case, (according to BBC's four-part documentary on time) your perception of time gets shorter and shorter as you get older.

Anyway I fell in love with Korea - with the people, the awesome "i-don't-really-care-what-you-think" fashion sense (<-- i am a huge fan of this), the stationery (gaaaah, the stationery!!!), the multiple cute and cosy cafes, Seoul - in general, the Konglish (Korean/English mash-up), the strange-grocery store ingredients, the food, the Korean kids, my Korean co-teachers, the creative opportunities this place has given me and the wonderful friends that I have made from all over the world whilst living here for the past three years.

Even although there are times when communication is TOUGH. (and I mean tough.) and the cultural differences are DIFFERENT (what? - you don't put tomatoes in your fruit salad?) and I have had SEVERE hair-dye FAIL (on numerous occasions), I still love Korea.

and i will forever.

Thanks SoKo for the past three years. it's been real.

The Rose

A few weeks ago an email landed in my inbox from Guy With Camera, (Andrew Brauteseth) - Guy with Camera is an amazing photographer (i thought that was obvious) and he runs a very visually delicious blog. (- winning best photographic blog at the SA blog awards last year). He has recently completed his first short film titled The Rose.

The Rose is absolutely gorgeous and everything just blends so well together, like Camembert and a french baguette. In Guy With Camera's write-up about about his project he mentions Amelie - which is one of my all time favourite movies - I love it for the lighting, the soundtrack, the imagery, the innocence and the quirkiness. Some movie stills from Amelie - (courtesy of Rotten Tomatoes):

Birthday Invitations

It's my lovely mom's birthday in May and I'm making a trip home to join the celebrations!
Naturally my mom has asked me to design some birthday invitations/stationery for her.

Dear Che,

Please could you do some invitations for my birthday celebrations for May.
I think I want to have a 'Jeans and Jewels' theme - you know, pretty casual but still nice, you know a dash of something fancy.
Let me know

I can't wait to see you!

Dear Mom,

Yay! I'm so excited! That's a great theme for you!
I've made some invite samples for a pretty "jeans and jewels" theme which i've attached - I'm not sure about venues or times - so the text is all random. I also have some great ideas for making it casual but still pretty and beautiful! YAY!
Let me know what you think and I will make changes.

Dear Che

Actually, I've changed my mind. I think it's going to be "just jeans"now - nothing fancy or glitzy for me.
Also we might have it in a barn - so maybe you could change the chandelier for another picture. There are no chandeliers in the barn. Nothing fancy or beautiful or anything like that.

Love

Dear Mom

WHAT?! Why are you changing the theme? It was nice for you! I highly disapprove of this change. But anyway I have changed the invitations and chandelier pictures accordingly to fit your new 'barn-theme'.

Let me know what you think.

ps. Don't get me wrong - events in barns are AWESOME.
but they should still be a touch of fancy....

PS. We eventually went with a 'cartoon-style' invitation, which pleased us both. haha. Will post pictures of it soon - I'm sad I didn't get to spend mother's day with my wonderful mom yesterday - but I will be home soon (6 days!) to celebrate. YAY!
I hope all the moms had a lovely day yesterday :)

7 things

  1. Great things come in SEVENS. Like these guys...
    Photobucket
... and also.... SEVEN days left until I fly home for vacation. YAY ME!
  2. Sometimes good friends bring about the most inspiration :)
  3. One jam packed day - (ie Korean Children's day) can really take it out of you for the whole week.
  4. Having a one day weekend is NOT ok.
  5. Spring Picnic Weather, Ciders, Popcorn and good company IS ok.
  6. Baseball is wicked fun, especially in Korea where all the chants are choreographed and dubbed from pop-songs. I watched my first game last week :)
  7. Every Mother is the best mother in the world. Without your mother, there would be no world for you. Happy Mother's Day to all the Mommsies!
