{Cartoon} PET PEEVES

 photo petpeeve1_zps83e25cf8.jpg
When I was much younger I often slept over at my granny's house - Granny's house was the BEST time and I thought my parents kept dumping me there because they wanted me to have ALL THE FUN IN THE WORLD - although it was probably (mainly) because they wanted some time out. Whatevs.

At granny's house - there was bright pink and yellow typewriter paper - like boxes and boxes of it and all tied together with string. I used to get my gran to write down as many questions as she could on the pink and yellow paper because, for some reason, my six year old-self just loved answering questionnaires and making booklets of self-interviews.

(I know).

One of her questions - I remember very clearly - asked:

"What is your pet peeve?"

Being the young fry that I was - I had no idea what this meant, so I asked my lovely granny and she told me:

"Well, it's like a pet thing you don't like very much or something that annoys you."

to which I remember replying -

oh bless my little cotton socks.

Anyway - today I thought I would share one of my PET PEEVES with you:

It is appropriate today because I have recently come across a really awesome lifestyle/yoga/meditative/good-life/beautiful inspiring-words blog which I would really love to share with you. But - this particular author has not yet grasped this concept and it irks me to my core.

So much so that I cannot actually even share it.

But, like -

When your entire mantra is based off a grammatical error:

eg:

"YOUR A FIGHTER!"

No. I just cannot.

In fact, if husband ever messaged me to say:

"your my favourite thing"
I'd text him right back with
"your sleeping on the couch"

Please do take the next few moments to really LEARN what I'm about to teach you -
and let's make this world a grammatically happier place

those are your french fries.
You bought them.

You own them
They belong to you.
They are yours.

Now when you say to your friend

"your awesome!"

what you are really saying is:

But

if they have already grasped this simple concept then -

OK -

The sneaky one eyed apostrophe bandit has successfully hijacked the letter A.
Sneaky one-eyed bandit is holding the letter A hostage.

Sneaky- one-eyed-apostrophe-bandit has hidden in that empty alleyway -
 holding the letter A hostage.

The Letter-Police are flummoxed.

Your welcome.

this blows my mind.

I teach english in South Korea. it's a blast... but learning english as your second language is tough. Luckily these Japs have figured out the most effective teaching method! AND! bonus! it's a workout too!
side note: THIS. IS. REAL. i have nothing more to say.

good engrish, very pretty, i like.

Before I came to Korea, I was madly obsessed with obscure and weird english-mash-ups -  You know the kind of random Chinese/english junk you find in those obscure 'South-African-Asian' stores with really fancy names like "Jessica's Fashions" or "HappyBuy" with Asian owners who don't really understand you, but anyway they cram you into a tiny photobooth, with rabbit ears, big sunglasses and furry Russian hats to take pictures that are printed on small stickers that say HAPPY TOGETHER!

... just me then?... oh, ok.

anyway, I digress. Let's keep it simple.

Me  = LOVE RANDOM ASIAN ENGLISH.

as you can imagine, since coming to Korea, for me it is like Asian-English HEAVEN. (insert chiming bells noise now). I absolutely LOVE the konglish that is just ALL over the place here.

For example, it even occurs in our day-to-day teaching. As it did with Kristi today:

it kills me.

Anyway, these pics are taken from an old facebook album of mine, so I thought I would share:

"a simple gesture a single movement the word, a look. sometimes these disappoint me greatly, but most of the times they are very moving to a realistic dreamer like me i am dreaming of you in my own fantasty. Thank you for dreaming together."
so deep, so moving, so simply LYRICAL.

it most certainly does.

this doesn't need any explaining.

yes, indeed we are.

i will have you know, there are several of these bars. Ho Bar I, Ho Bar II, Ho Bar III, you get the idea...

"Love is... with palpitation just like the first time with the consistant heart all the time you will be my only love forver... STARM"

LOOK! it's my konglish-name in the middle! and we are tied together with Hearstrings!
this shirt is PERFECT if your name is Shae and you have two sisters tied together with heartstring, one named Sarah and one named Susan!
and if not,
well,
i guess then that's a bit tricky.

BBQ pork libs omelet is DELICIOUS.

Marital harmony a glutinous rice cake.
i can't explain this.
because... i just. dont. know. how.

i love a good prece.

that's what you always want.

and the final picture, is truly the crowning glory. Found on a small kids t-shirt in a Dongdaemun shopping market. The picture is blurry, which is probably a good thing. (I have a clearer one if you'd really like it) And i'm not even going to caption it, i'm just going to let you all figure it out.
that's all.

oh english. we love you.

There were two reasons why I have not posted a decent cartoon in a while. The first being deathly-sick-flu and the second being that i am literally up-to-my-eyeballs in pink, black and silver for a wedding guestbook/thank-you notes/table-numbers/church programs that I'm busy doing for a friend.
You may think that this is figuratively/metaphorically speaking, but to anyone who has entered the mess-zone of my apartment - will know that this is actually quite literal.
(point in case - this is a small section. i am too embarrassed to show the rest)
anyway being 'up-to-my-eyeballs' in wedding-ness made me think about our wonderful english language and how confusing it must be to anyone trying to learn it...
(bear with me - it isn't my finest work. but i'm still sick. the comatose-blind-snail-brain-thing) i hope you can spot all the wonderful english-isms.

(that's all i have the brain capacity for today. maybe the kettles and pots will make a return sometime when i'm not
man-down, bed-ridden, sick-as-a-dog.
