When you live far away from your beloved home country for an extended period of time, you begin to miss all the (delicious) things that make your country home. ie: Biltong, Milo, Boerewors, Savannah Dry, Ouma Rusks, NikNaks, Bovril, Smarties, Chutney, Salt and Vinegar popcorn shake.... yes... yes, there are a lot of things to miss about Sunny South Africa.
THEN!
By some glorious act of the world one of your *lovely* friends goes home for a visit and brings back a delicious goodie bag of TREATS.
NOW,
a South African goodie bag of treats in the middle of South Korea is much like this:
This picture is a quite pixelated.
But that is exactly how your eyes go when you gaze upon South African treasure treats in the middle of Korea. You can't quite believe it and you keep trying to refocus in case it disappears before your eyes... Everything gets a bit hazy.
So, when you get this treasure-treat-chest of joy you plague yourself with inner monologue and anguish. Should you just devour all the wonderful-joyish-delight in your mouth all at once and get a FULL explosion of awesomeness or should you try and stretch it out over several days...
I attacked the smarties first:
you CLAW your way back into the cupboard.
If you had decided to put a 'sneaky-lock' onto the cupboard in an attempt to trick yourself...
YOU. GNAW. IT. OFF.
with
YOUR TEETH.
you GET THOSE SMARTIES.
SUCCESS.
you need a reward.
yes.
only five.
good idea.
OOPS!!!
OH NO!!! TERRIBLE MISFORTUNE!!
It appears my hand must have SLIPPED.
What a BOTHER!!
ONE EXTRA SMARTIE PANTS.
(odd numbers are better.)
also
9 is better than seven.
you know,
perfect square and all.
let's go with 9...
yip, that's right
FINISHED.
ALL of them.
Now, you've DONE it.
They are ALL finished.
"i hope you are HAPPY with yourself you sugar-starved-South-African-candy-fueled-raging-belligerent-sugar-rush!"
in my defense...
the chocolate cravings began early -
NEVER, leave me unattended in a room full of chocolate
oh
and...
* * * * * *
send me a package of south african treats.
i'd like that.
* * * * * *
PS. muchos thank you to the lovely Nicole for the delicious treats.
you may have saved me years in the gym and severe self-preservation had you kept them in your own cupboard - but i am very grateful for the delicious treats. Thank you- it's good to have you back in SoKo :)

I am teaching English in Thailand and after being here for 8 months there are many things that I am craving from home (South Africa!) Smarties is most definately top of the list! I got a parcel of most-missed-treats yesterday and I am trying to hide the boxes of smarties..but it's impossible!:)
you have to smash all the goodies in ONE GO. it's the only way. :) Hope you enjoyed your south african FEASTINGS!! :)
