Inside boys cupboards.

 photo warrcupboard1_zps8c3d6a24.jpg
We've just got back from a short stay at Warr's folks house - it was so lovely to have some time with his folks. As you can imagine, we spent a good few hours snooping looking in all the drawers and cupboards in Warr's old high-school room to check out all the hidden treasures. I particularly enjoyed his "high-school-boy cupboard collages". You know the kind of thing: stuck up Prefects Pledges right below disciplinary hearings (naughty boy). Tons of old school pics, rugby team pics, high school cricket team pics, party invitations, international school exchange badges, school ball invitations and letters from old girlfriends. (lols)

 photo warrcupboard2_zpsa98eefeb.jpg
Since it's "Throwback Thursday" I thought I would whack these up - just to show you what an absolute Kool Kat I have married - (I believe these pics are circa 2001.)

 photo warrcupboard3_zps63bdacf1.jpg
We also measured the man against his height chart and we are delighted to announce that he has grown approximately 1.5cm in the last 13 years. Well done Warren.

 photo photo1_zps27917d7b.jpg
(please note: Junior Bob Card, bottom left)

We also found a massive bag filled with a stash of letters, notes and cards that I wrote to Warr when we first parted ways (at the end of his last year at University) and he went to Austria on a ski season. We haven't actually opened this bag yet (it's crammed full!) and I'm so excited to read all these old love letters - because I am sure there will be some gems in there! Will definitely fill you in when we've been through them!

 photo warrcupboard4_zps01992d23.jpg

Over dinner one night, his mom told me that right after Warren had met me, she got a call from him saying, "Mom, I don't know what to do. I have met someone who is awesome and I really like - but I know I'm leaving University at the end of the year and she's only in second year. I don't know if I should even get involved."

His mom replied, "I can't help you make this decision... but all I can say is, Follow your heart."

Thank goodness for moms.

The ONE THING

I'm really into this "self-help/motivational" book that Lulu gave me to read. I am so into it that I have been quoting phrases to The Warr on an almost hourly basis. The whole book is about directed focus and how to effectively channel your energy to hone in on the ONE thing that will make you successful and asks so many awesome questions that help you determine exactly what that ONE thing is. (I will share more of my experience with this book soon!) Anyway - The following is an actual conversation that took place on Sunday morning - during our coffee-and-reading-session in bed:

 photo warr1_zps0674d5bf.jpg photo warr2_zps5f2513a5.jpg photo rabbit1_zps02ba9a96.jpg photo warr3_zps6bfc4e44.jpg photo warr4_zpsacce7e7d.jpg photo warr5_zpsc19d5b6f.jpg photo warr6_zps6237f0c6.jpg photo warr7_zps68ac43e6.jpg photo warr8_zps1cff269c.jpg photo warr9_zps4c18cb74.jpg photo warr10_zpsc9910c07.jpg

Warren, I love you.

Love is SHAZAM

 photo shazam1_zps2be66e4b.jpg

I am an epic music ninja.
(see pic below for clarity)
 photo shazam8_zps7356e25c.jpg
Shazam is one of my most FAVOURITE apps.
... and if you don't know what Shazam is....

I'm afraid we can't be friends.

Shazam - in a nutshell - picks up songs/music/sounds around you and tags them so that you can find out exactly what song is playing and who the artist is.

I use this app a LOT. In fact, it's the main reason why I don't have a passcode lock on my phone - because it would waste WAY too many precious seconds of potential music-ninja-ing. When I walk into a shop/ coffee place/ restaurant (etc) the "musical ambience" is the very first thing I notice and if it's an awesome song that I've never heard before, I get myself into such a flurry trying to shazam it before the song ends that I usually end up walking into mannequins and such. (true). I shazam shop music, coffee shop music, restaurant music, movie music, TV advert music, TV show music, elevator music. I shazam so much that I've even converted shazam to a verb.

So anyway, today I thought I would just share with you some of my recently "collected" shazam tags - I have just scrolled through my Shazam tags and created a Spotify playlist which you can play here. (I'm new to Spotify - so hopefully will have a few more playlists for you soon!)

Also - just wanted to add - that we had such a fabulous weekend! On friday - we watched Titanic with a good lashing of pizza and red wine (and when "the scene" came on - The Warr made me close my eyes and lifted up my arms and blew into my hair while Celine Dion belted out her shizz. It was like I was on the front line of the Titanic blazing into the sunset... #Magical). I did some yogi-moves in the ad breaks and husband snapped me. Saturday - I had an awesome "reunion" brunch with some Blogcademy babes - so fab to see them all again! Saturday eve - Warr and I went to Covent Garden for some cocktails, dinner and to watch Versaille at the Donmar Theatre. Sunday we had a yummy pub lunch and "design chat" with friends of ours who are getting married next year - and I'm creating their wedding stationery - FUN! And you guys - SO MUCH SUNSHINE! Summer is on it's way!!!

 photo shazam2_zps7c02d746.jpg
 photo shazam6_zps057af600.jpg
("Warr look at that sign! It says WC! We need to get a pic with that!")

This was a rather "Dear Diary" type post for indieBerries - but I totes can't help it - we just had such a fab weekend! And.... HOW LONG IS MY HAIR?!!?

 photo shazam4_zps447f7eb7.jpg

So anyway, happy music playlisting!
How was your weekend?

The Gratitude Run

I had an amazing experience last night.

Before I begin this post, I'd like to state that this is not a "boast post". This is not a "EVERYBODY COME SEE HOW GOOD I LOOK!". This is not a "I'm better than you, suckers!" post.

But last night, I went for a run.

Let me add - I enjoy running. I run and I enjoy it. But for the most part I usually find the actual running pretty tough. I try to run as often as I can - but it's never too far. When I (rarely) hit the 5km mark - I'm pretty chuffed.

So last night when Warr (who knows how good exercise is for my soul) was working late and messaged me to say I should go for a short run (his message read 3.9km exactly) I was all like "meh" but eventually laced up my shoes and dragged myself out the door.

Around the 3km mark - (and realising I only had 0.9km to go to reach "the goal") something inside me shifted. It was as if something in my mind said to me, "If Warren asks for a 3.9km run. Then that's what you should give him. In fact, you should always give him what he asks of you, and everything else you've got." 4kms came and went. 5kms came.

It could have been the new music playlist (or Warren's earphones that I'd swiped off the bedside table), but something felt different. And - strangely, not in my feet, not in my muscles, not in my legs, and not in my shoes. The difference was in my mind.

5.5kms came and 5.5kms went.

Something in my mind clicked over to the beat of the music and I began to think of all the things I am grateful for: I am grateful for my husband, I am grateful for this air on my face, I am grateful for this run, right now. And the list of gratefulness became a mantra:

I am grateful for the lighter evenings
I am grateful that it's getting warmer
I am grateful for my family
I am grateful for my father who is so loving and magnanimous
I am grateful for my mother for her strong mind and for being so caring
I am grateful for my brother  - for his witty chirps and his generous spirit
I am grateful that I am young
I am grateful that I am healthy
I am grateful that I get to wake up to my dream man every day
I am grateful for the talents that I have
I am grateful for my wit and my humour
I am grateful for the power in my legs that are carrying me through this run
I am grateful for a roof over my head

I am grateful for the growth I have seen in myself this year
I am grateful for puppies (I don't even own a puppy - what?)

I am grateful to be able to make people laugh
I am grateful to be able to share my thoughts, words, pictures, cartoons with the world
I am grateful for all the things I have achieved in my life
8kms

At the 8km mark - I ran right passed our house.
Let me say that again  -
After 8 kilometres of running, I intentionally ran RIGHT PASSED our house.
Yes, my knees were screaming and my legs were tired, but my mind had so many more things to be grateful for - and - when your mind is happy - your body is too. So I kept running.

I am grateful that I am not in a wheelchair
I am grateful that I have legs that are strong and a heart that pumps blood
I am grateful for nature, for the things around us that we overlook every day
I am grateful for my husband and how hard he works for us
I am grateful for our future - and whatever lies ahead
I am grateful for weekends
I am grateful for any special time or ordinary time that we spend together
I am grateful for the love I have for him
I am grateful that we live right next to a beautiful park
I am grateful for my friends Shelly and Noo and how much I admire them
I am grateful that we live on the doorstep of one of the most vibrant cities in the world
I am grateful for all the cool places to go and the things to see and the stuff to do
I am grateful for the Summer time coming soon
I am grateful for our Sunday traditions
I am grateful for red wine and couch days
I am grateful for the way I was brought up
I am grateful for the school I went to
I am grateful that I went on an international exchange
I am grateful for all the traveling that I have done
I am grateful for all the experiences I have had
I am grateful that I am living my dream and for the husband who encourages me to pursue it
I am grateful for friendships
I am grateful for my family
I am grateful for love
I am grateful for Warren

I am grateful for life.

 photo gratituderun_zps90496387.png
I will be honest with you - somewhere around the 7km mark -
I noticed tears streaming down my face.
Not from my aching knees or my tired muscles - but from the complete overwhelming gratitude I have for being alive.

And it felt amazing.

 photo gratituderun_zpsfb7fcc9b.jpg
(by "fastest 10km - it really means "pretty much the only 10km")

(and just so you know - this run was completely out the blue. I have not been "training" or on any special program or anything like that.)

What my newfound LOVE for yoga/meditation/gratitude is teaching me - is that the most powerful thing in your life - is your mind. And you have no idea how far it will take you, until you allow it to. And not in the way of, "YOU WILL RUN SEVENTY-THOUSAND-KILOMETRES-BECAUSE-I-SAID-SO" but rather, in being open, being accepting. Taking a step back, being calmer, being more peaceful - and simply letting your mind into that new gentle space and just letting it do it's thing.

So my challenge for you, if you would like it,
is to let gratefulness be your running mantra and then
Run until you run out of things to be grateful for.

and just see what happens

* * * * *

And then I poured my soup directly on the counter

 photo gratituderun2_zpsf47cbb4d.jpg

Because you can't win everything.

lol.

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!
any exciting plans?

Artichokes

 photo lovebite_zpsd0ce94ec.jpg
With Warren being away most of last week for a wedding in South Africa, I stocked up the fridge with edible goodies I could eat that would require little no cooking, cleaning or preparation. Ready made soups, carrots, little pots of mixed olives and sun-dried tomatoes and such. You know what I'm talking about: hunter-gather food. So when he returned, I had plenty of left over goods to try pawn off on him.
 photo artichoke1_zps77c9d1c0.jpg photo artichoke2_zps6e64c6f6.jpg
But why don't you want my artichoke Warren? It's delicious.

I was not impressed.

I tried again later when we were on the couch:

WAHAHAHAHA.
Arty. choke.

hahahahaha
what a FUNNY CHOKE!

hahaha
WAHAHAHAA
LOL. ROFL,  HILAR.
wahahaha.

Ah sigh, it's good to have the man back in my life.
I love having someone to share my punny chokes with.

I woke up early this morning for yoga and -

The Warr: Happy 11 months Married!
Me: WOW! Is it 11 months married today?! WOW!! Can't believe WE SURVIVED!
Warr: Yeah. Geez. But one more day and that's me - done.

So from tomorrow, it looks like I'll be back on the market.

just kidding,

Happy 11 months married wonderful husband!
One more month until.... PAPER.

But WHAT did I get for the Husband?!

If you read my blogpost on the 25th - you will know that I was busy celebrating My Favourite Human's birthday. I woke The Warr up early with some presents and a birthday "cake" (which you can see in the previous blog post.

Throughout the day, I sent him different pictures on the hour (you can go back and have a re-cap of what they were here). Right before I met him for a delicious sushi dinner - I sent him the last pic, which I think is what gave the whole thing away -

 photo photo1_zps6fca33bb.jpg
Can you guess?

Yes.
It's the zoomed-up roof of an Audi Car.

And no, I did not give him a car for his birthday - (who do you think I am, Rockefeller?!). But maybe knowing that clue - you can figure out some of the rest?

 photo photo1_zps746d1cb6.jpg

easy huh?

Over dinner, I made him go back and guess what each of the pictures were - and presented the entire picture from "MY SECRET ENVELOPE OF PRINT OUTS" when he guessed them correctly - and he got most of them spot on! Knowing that each of them are "car-related" maybe you'd like another shot at guessing the pictures? The yellow ones all go together and I've put the answers below each picture - so scroll slowly if you want to try guess them before you see the answers!

 photo warrbday2_zpscc08fb1a.jpg

ANSWERS Left to Right: 1. This was the hardest picture. It is the very zoomed up tip of the door of this Lamborghini picture (it opens into the sky, remember - James Bond Style). 2. This is the beginning of the word Ferrari in the Ferrari Logo. 3. The underneath of the Lamborghini. 4. The curve of the Ferrari shield.

 photo Warrbday1_zps4a7b26d7.jpg

Left to Right: 1. Blue sky, with a grand prix flag. (this was also a difficult one). 2. The Aston Martin Logo. 3. A close up of the curve of a race track - road and curb. 4. The top of the Ferrari Logo Shield.

And of course -
My EPIC car birthday cake which (unknowingly) tied the whole thing together!

For the husband's birthday present, I have bought him a Super Car Racing Drive Experience. For one afternoon - he will be able to choose three cars of his choice (including Lamborghini's Ferrari's, Aston Martins, Bentley's and Audi R8s) and race them around a track, while I watch from the side, meditating to calm my shattered nerves. I can hardly wait. And, so it seems - neither can The Warr. Since the tracks are all a little way out of London - I think we might find a cool place to nest for the night and make a weekend trip out of it. Good. I'll need some way to unwind after all the race stress.

 photo birthdayboxingday_zps639ce005.jpg
After a delicious sushi dinner (and a bunch of picture revealing), we had a slow stroll back home and finished off the evening with red wine, cupcakes and BINGO cards.

Because what else are birthday's for?

Get yo chakra on.

I have been putting off this post for a while now.

because -

Some posts are just harder to put into words than others,
ya know?

I kind of wish I could rather sit here and talk to you all about my recent experience regarding this - so that you could FULLY understand the complete AMAZEMENT/ EXCITEMENT/ EMOTION that went down. But anyway, since that's not possible (besides me talking to my camera and posting it to YouTube) I'll just try my best to get it all out.

 photo chakra1_zpsc1fad441.jpg
Let me begin by saying that lately, I feel I've been opened up to an entire new world of shizz. {I have downloaded the Headspace App (that's a whole different blog post!) and I've been completely inspired with all the yogis that I follow on Instagram (see this post) - so much so that I have attempted some yogi headstands of my own. I am keen to visit Keri's Reiki Healer when I'm back home and I have even signed up for this Colour Festival in June.} To sum up, there is some kind of shift going on in my mind and soul... and it's epic.

So when Lulu mentioned that she had some Chakra Necklaces

I was ALL. IN.

In basic terms (and as much as I am still learning) there are 7 different chakras  - or "energy zones" in your body which relate to different physical organs and emotional issues that we may (or may not) be carrying. When there are blockages in any of these zones of energy we may experience physical or emotional/mental imbalances.

Lulu invited me over and laid out her seven chakra necklaces in front of me and asked me to choose one based PURELY ON THE SYMBOL that I was most drawn to. (Bearing in mind I had never seen these symbols before). After much deliberation I eventually went for the fifth chakra. At this point, I found out it was the throat chakra, but still didn't have much idea about what it specifically relates to.
 photo chakra2_zps7d8a9b88.jpg
As you may know, I LOVE me a good personality test and "learning about myself". So, as soon as I left Lulu's house - I rushed home and tried to read up about the chakras online. I found a chakra personality test and without knowing anything about it - answered the completely random 40+ questions. I then did another chakra test (and another). Every time I did a test - it gave me exactly the same chakra that I had chosen based purely on the symbol that I was most drawn to.

As you can imagine -

I was SPEECHLESS.

 photo chakra3_zpsefc1274e.jpg

mouth-opened-jaw-dropping-speechless.

It's like something in me was drawn to the exact symbol-chakra that is the perfect balance for my personality. At this point, I was SO intrigued / excited / amazed by this "coincidence" that I went and researched further: imbalances in the throat chakra can cause teeth problems, (HELLO DENTIST), mouth ulcers and sore throats. (note: at the very time of choosing this chakra I had been sick with a sore throat and stuffy nose for about a week).  I won't go into all the long of it - but the more I read about this chakra and it's emotional/physical imbalances the more I cannot believe how completely apt it is to me and the things I need to work on in my life.

Furthermore - the element of the fifth chakra is sound - which also re-confirms (and enlightens me) as to a lot of other things in my life. (For example, my primary love language is Words of affirmation - ie: HEARING people appreciate me). Actually, for a long time - that I've never really understood until now - whenever I hear Warren use my name out loud in a sentence - I've always had a quiet chuckle to myself. Why?  As I now realise - is because it SOUNDS so good to me - it resonates well with something within me. Sometimes even, just hearing a song can make me so emotional I burst into tears.

I got so excited about all of this that within 7 minutes I had messaged my mother, my father and half my friends with pictures of the chakras asking them to choose. I ordered one of the necklaces from Lulu and sent them to a friend back in South Africa. They all picked the ones that were so apt to their personalities and physical imbalances. Of course, I made Warren choose his chakra and subsequently overloaded him with a bajillion chakra personality tests. You're welcome, honey.

I have been wearing my chakra necklace ever since I got it and I love it. There is something about having it on me it that reminds me to be more aware of how I choose to respond to different situations in my life. I'm so excited to read up more about it all and learn more.

At the end of this mish-mash post - I feel I haven't really effectively explained the ENTIRENESS of how awesome and far-reaching this experience has been for me -

but yep.
that's the gist of it.

And it's already gotten so long and wordy... but ya know -
my chakra necklace is aimed to balance me with more communication ...

So maybe it's working.

Stay tuned.

 * * * * * *

PS. If you'd like to order a chakra necklace and choose the one that you are most drawn to (and I would totes recommend it!) - hop over to Lulu's blog.

Friday Fun

I started this blog post with no clear direction.

Can you tell already?

 photo mewarr1_zps01d4c39d.jpg
(This picture was taken at a bus stop a few weeks ago - waiting outside in the cold. My physio-friend, Lulu told me that if you are desperate to wee, then you need to push on the soft area above your lip and curl your toes and it will help relieve the pressure on your bladder. My hands were too cold to take out my pockets - so the man stepped up to the plate. What a guy.)

Friday is "usually" the day for FUN FACT FRIDAY - but to be honest, I'm getting a little bored of it now. In fact, I get bored of things pretty quickly - It's a miracle I've managed to stay married SO long (10 months).

So anyway - since I am getting a little bored of FUN FACTS - maybe you are too?! (thoughts?!) Can you believe that I started that series 7 months ago?! That's almost as long as I've been married. Sheesh. Time flies. Maybe I will have to find another series that I'm inspired by again. Maybe FRIDAY FUN! Who knows. Not me. So in lieu of fun facts, I thought I would just tell you some random shizz:

The Husband is away in South Africa at the moment for a wedding - he flew on Wednesday evening. I have predicted various things happening during the time that he is away -
  • My sleeping patterns will drastically change. I am a total night owl - but force myself to "try" go to bed when The Warr does. Last night, I went to bed at 1am...and nearly got back out of bed to go do more "stuff". Oh, it's going to be a slippery slope til Monday. In fact, between now and Monday will probably only be one sleep.
  • I will not wash any dishes. OR - more realistically, I will not make anything that requires dishes being washed. Food consumed in this period will likely be: boiled eggs, half a red pepper, spoonfuls of avocado and cereal straight out the box. Actually, that is exactly what I ate yesterday.
  • I will attempt all sorts of "things". I have in my mind, an idea to MAKE THINGS WITH FEATHERS. I have no idea what these "things" are. But I just know I want to MAKE SOMETHING. and I want FEATHERS to be involved. More likely, I just want an excuse to visit Hobbycraft again.
  • I have booked a yoga workshop on Saturday at the Bikram centre in Wimbledon. Also, if you didn't see my instagram feed - I've been doing some "home-yoga" headstands an all yo. - and I'm keen to have another session tonight! (I've been following videos off this website)
I'M BREAKING UP THIS LOVELY LIST WITH
A PICTURE OF HUSBAND AND HIS BEARD:
 photo warrme2_zpsc67faaf9.jpg
I was trying to take a picture of The Mancakes while he still had his beard,

Me: Ok, now laugh like I've said the FUNNIEST THING IN THE WHOLE WORLD. PEOPLE MUST KNOW HOW HILARIOUS I AM.

He takes direction well - we should probably be in Hollywood.

I forgot where I was going with this.

Hmm.
Am obviously losing my mind without him here.

I have a lot to do today - tons of emails and guestbook enquiries and website stuff and Etsy orders. So I'm going to sign off... but I will leave you with this NUMBER ONE TIP!! (VERY NB): Always, ALWAYS start your blog posts with a clear direction, or you will end up nowhere in a pile of beard. HA HA HA HA HA.

* * * * * *

PS - If you are still desperate for FUN FACTS - you can read a whole bunch here!
Also - I have loved all the banter that went on the indieBerries Facebook Page about the curling cartoon I did! Loads of people sent me the David Attenborough Curling narration - if you haven't seen it, do yourselves a favour and WATCH IT.

Happy Friday!

Lists. Because I felt like it.

I just felt like making some lists today. That's all.

A list of things I LOVE

  • Warren. Obvs. And family and friends.
  • Drawing, doodling, cartooning, journalling
  • Bikram Yoga, I've only just started it, but i LOVE it.
  • Popcorn.
  • Making lists.
  • Cute, unnecessary stationery. (to make lists on).
  • Taking a time-out from my computer. I spend so much of my day at my Mac, that it's super refreshing to get away from it once in a while.
  • Good music.
  • Snail mail and packages.
  • Laughing at my own jokes. (I spent the good part of last night in hysterics in the kitchen - all on my own).
(Warren enters: what are you laughing at?
Me: Nothing. I don't know.... *shrugs*...
Sigh, it's SO FUN inside my mind.)
  • Photos and lomo snaps.
  • Sushi.
  • Electric Blankets. Trust me, if Sidney Russell hadn't got there first - I would have invented a way to strap a heater onto my back before bedtime.
  • Sheets with SUPER HIGH thread counts - I have inherited this from Warren.
  • Pet shops. Because, when was the last time you felt unhappy in a pet shop? Exactly.

A list of things I'm totally impartial to
  • What Paris Hilton wears, eats or in fact anything she does. meh. In fact - the vast majority of celebrity stuff I actually am not too bothered with. If something about someone famous popped up on my screen, I may read it - or I may not - but I never intentionally keep up with their lives.
  • The choice between cats and dogs

A list of things I HATE.
  • The complete disrespect of young school children in London who don't even attempt to make a path or move off the sidewalk for people who are much older (and sometimes frailer) than them.
  • When something in the shop says "EXTRA VERY INDIAN SPICY" and you buy it and then get home and are like "WHY IS THIS NOT BURNING MY FACE OFF?!?"
  • Food being tepid. Especially soups and coffee. Conversations in our house often go like this: "Is the soup ready?" "Well, yes - mine is - but yours will probably need another 2 hours in the microwave." I want that shizz to BURN ME. (Am into hot things).
  • Frogs.
  • Cooking.
  • People with no manners or complete disregard for others. (see also delinquent children above)
  • Getting out of bed in the mornings, generally.
  • Those little pink sweets that are like tiny cylinders and taste like grannies moth balls. You know the ones?

Link of the day: some food for thought over at Midlands Musings.
Word for the weekend: Celebrate! Life, love, being alive.
Quote for the moment: “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” - Mahatma Gandhi

Yogi-Bear

So,

I have begun my "yoga journey".
Now bearing in mind, I am at the total beginner stages of this whole "practice-thing" but I have been really inspired lately (mainly by Lulu who recently became a yoga teacher). The husband surprised me last weekend with a 6 month subscription to the Bikram Yoga Centre in Wimbledon. I was so excited that on Monday morning, I rushed out of bed - MANY hours before the sun, got dressed, kitted and was rip-roaring-ready-to-go - only to realise that there is no Monday morning yoga class. Bearing in mind, that I am NOT a morning person. But don't worry, I curled back into bed (in my yoga kit) and bonded with my book, it's all cool.

Anyway.

I have been trying out some different yoga poses at home - and have been reading up about different armstands. So last night, I was home alone waiting for the man to get back from work and decided to attempt some armstands of my own:

I attempted the crow/crane/bakasana. After a few many attempts.... FINALLY -

(probably closer to 30 seconds in reality. Whatevs.)

I didn't even fall at all.
Not even a tiny little bit, at all.

And, Obviously, I got the whole thing on film.

THIS IS ME:

It may appear that my body is very different - but you know what they say -
when you PRACTICE YOGA - your WHOLE BODY CHANGES -

EVEN YOUR FACE.

Also - I was on beach.

And there you have it.

NAMASTE.
