Inspiration: 7 Creative Packaging Concepts

 photo antitheftlunchbagspackaging1_zps7c221154.png
I was recently asked on twitter to share some of my favourite people-to-follow in the realm of creative packaging design. I could look at brand packaging for HOURS, mainly because it's kind of like gift-wrapping for companies - and we all know how much I love a good gift wrap.

There are way too many people that I could recommend you follow - either the designers themselves or the sites that collate their work (often without linking back - grr) So anyway, here is a collection of a few of my faves and you can see which ones you like and hit them up on twitter if you so wish.

ABOVE: The anti-theft Lunch Bags - created by the. company from two designers Sherwood Forlee and Mihoko Ouchie. Sherwood actually grew up in Zimbabwe (woop Africa!) I love this design - so smart. AND... sneaky.

ABOVE & BELOW: This is one of my favourite brand identity collections - partly because it's cartoon all over it and partly because of the amazing hue of colours. Designed by Isabela Rodrigues. In fact, all their brand packaging is pretty awesome - definitely have a look at their website.

ABOVE & BELOW: This packaging design was created by May Tsui - it's a collection of CDs packaged to look like slices of bread. I'm a complete sucker for "alternative" packaging design.

Once, when I was living in South Korea - I stumbled across a set of notepads and cards that were shaped like a milk carton. I had absolutely no use for the milk carton note-set but I bought it anyway because I. couldn't. help. myself. Asia really does have the greatest packaging of all time.

I need to go back.

(ahem, husband.)

Anthology of Bread, anyone?

ABOVE:  These little "Jooze" cartoons were created by Yungyeen Yong as part of her student design portfolio. They are targeted at kids - but let me tell you, if I came across one of these in the shop, I'd buy it based on the packaging alone.

ABOVE: These tea packages were created by Jaeyoung Ha. What did I tell you about Asian Designers? Or maybe those are just the designs I'm most attracted to. Whatever, it's beautiful.

ABOVE: I am a huge fan of packaging that makes use of the product itself. Above is a perfect example of what I'm talking about - designed by Lo Siento. It makes the audience feel part of the design experience - which is of course, always a win. ("HAHA! Look at me! Look what I did! I pulled this bread out and gave this little gnome a hat! Look at me - I'm so clever!") Nope, that'd be the designer - but.... you have your two seconds of glory and go ahead and buy more bread to show your friends.

Design Win.

(Another excellent and completely harrowing example of this is from the Landmine Campaign - I haven't posted it here because it's quite hectic - but you can see it posted on my Creative Packaging Pinterest Board)

ABOVE: Packaging is always good when it evokes some kind of feeling. For me this embroidery style milk carton design by Peter Gregson does exactly that. When I look at this embroidery pattern sitting so perfectly on this milk carton - I immediately think of some lovely Swiss cows that are grazing in the lovely Swiss Alps in lovely little knitted jerseys. No?

So those are a few of the package designs that I love -

If you want to follow any websites that do a good job of collating these kinds of designs (and since a lot of these personal designers accounts tweet in foreign languages)

I can recommend:

The Dieline - curation of interesting package design
Lovely Package - packaging design from around the world
Behance - a collection of design portfolios
Eight Hour Day - mainly design and illustration with the odd packaging concept thrown in.

You can also follow my Creative Packaging Pinterest board for some visual inspiration.

Happy Monday everyone

Innocent.

A few weeks ago I blogged about how much I love the innocent food range. And because it's always nice to hear compliments about the things you do, the products you make or the blog posts you write - I decided to email the lovely people at innocent and tell them how much I dig their vibe.

I received an awesome reply from Rio and took a screen shot of the email exchange -
Below it is a transcription.

Hello there Che,

Firstly, that's a great name. Secondly, we think you're lovely. You've brightened up our day no end, and we're truly flattered to hear that you're such a fan of the stuff we do too.

Seeing as it's a job you're after (and very eligible you are too), we've passed your blog link onto a nice lady called Kat who works in our recruitment team. We've also given it to Dan - our creative director, as we're pretty sure he'd like to see it too.

If we do happen to have the perfect job for you, Kat will be in touch with you directly.

In the meantime, here's a video of a little dormouse snoring his head off:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyaOXN6Vgrw

Cheerio for now, and best of luck,

Rio

Aaaah. innocent. You win my heart again.

The innocent range of awesomeness.

Before we begin I would like to confess - i do not cook. i once blew up a egg in the microwave , once ended up eating fried onions for dinner and once, a very long time ago, made a Millennium Falcon Star Wars Cake - other than that - i do not cook. Every meal for me, is an epic adventure.

My first encounter with innocent:
So there I was, one arbitrary lunchtime wandering aimlessly around Sainsbury's with no plan in mind and the familiar hunger pangs creeping into my belly when suddenly - from the corner of my eye - i spotted the entirely lowercase lettering of the innocent veg pots. i am a fan of the lowercase - so i knew i had to snap these babies up pronto. (the two-for-one special may also have been a drawcard, who knows).

When i tore into opened the veg pots I was overwhelmed with packaging awesomeness.
And here it is:

Fancy a quick jaunt to India?
Simple. squint at this photo and allow the delicious aroma of your healthy curry of aubergine, chickpeas and lemon rice to dance around your nostrils. If you think and squint and smell all at the same time you'll be transported to a bustling Indian market where these spices will guide your senses and make you wonder how all of these flavours and tastes come to be. If you think really hard you might even be able to get a good price on a rug and a hat with tassles. Believe in the hat.

Posh up yourself!
Need a bit more class in your life? Looked down on as the office commoner? Not any more. Simply cut out this doily, pair it with a nice (bone china) cup of tea and extend that pinky. Quite right too.

Office Exercises
Preparing for an office brawl? Feeling like the runt of the photocopier queue? Just fancy beefing up a bit at work? Look here...
1. Stapler Squeeze
Find the heaviest stapler in the office, pick it up give it a quick stare and then squeeze it every other second until you thin it knows who's boss.
2. Hole Punch Flex
Grab the hole punch off your desk and wedge it in the crease of you arm and start clenching. Go for as many as possible, ten on each arm should achieve those 'Rocky II' guns.
3.  Keyboard Extensions
Unplug your keyboard, pop it behind your head and start lifting it all the way up and down. Feeling buff? Try it one handed, hot shot.

This, my friends, is packaging done right.
Not only do I want to go out and buy another veg pot just to see what awesome things are lurking in the cardboard wrapper - but the food is pretty freaking yumma-licious too.
And you know what? They are not even paying me to say this.
But
They probably should be.

In fact,

And also,

Dear Warren

I think I love you. (really)
As an epic wedding present, you could scour all the dustbins of London for discarded innocent packaging and compile them into a beautiful and LOL-tastic scrapbook for me.
Thanks
Che
