{Wedding} Confessions of a Rhodes Bride

 photo bridal.jpg

I was just looking through my blog draft-posts and came across this blog post that I had written a little while before our wedding - but I actually forgot to post it in the madness of the wedding-build-up. lol. Thought I would just post it now anyway -

* * * * *

Warren and I met at Rhodes University, South Africa. A university renown for it's wild-ways and outlandish drinking culture. Our wedding is next weekend. (WHAAAAAT!?!) The majority of our wedding guests (his guests and my guests) are Rhodes Alumni and make no mistake that I have fully prepared myself for misdemeanors of all kinds. I mean -

I had full-blown streakers at my 21st.

and it was on a Sunday.

At 9am.

Confessions of a Rhodes Bride:

"Do we have enough Cane?"

"But really, do we have enough Cane?"

"We should put that table in the corner - away from your parents."

"We should probably get some Cane for the after-party"
"But the reception is the after-party."
"No, you know what I mean."

"I'm gonna get more Cane"

"Do you think I should bring a bag for X for when he takes off his clothes?"

"We should probably try serve wine and beer only - you know, try pace everyone."
"No, that won't work"

"Ok, I'll just get more Cane then"

"How do your parents feel about nakedness?"

"DJ wants to know what kind of songs to play - what time do you think X will start break-dancing?"

"Is the closing time really 2am?"

"Are you sure about the Cane?"

"What about Wine? Do we have Wine? Actually they aren't fussy, they'll drink anything."

"Definitely that crowd needs to be at the back."

"No we can't put those two together - they'll get too excited and be hammered before speeches."

"I need to buy a prize-ish thing - some kind of alcohol?"

"This table is too wild - add girls. No, not those girls - they're also from Rhodes."

"I'm so over this table seating - I need Cane"

"So, I'm just gonna get a few extra cases of Cane"

"Do you think they will be ok to stand inside if it's raining"
"Yes it'll be fine - just give them some Cane"

"How am I going to funnel in my wedding dress?"

"I'm going to limit myself to white spirits - so that I don't spill on my wedding dress. Actually, I'll just get a long straw."

"No sparklers. We can't have Rhodents and alcohol and fire."

"I hope my ten-year old cousins go to bed before X gets too hammered and starts feeding them Cane"

"Yeah - we're gonna need more Cane. For the cousins."

"No, my uncle won't mind - you know, he also went to Rhodes."

"This wedding is like a massive reunion! You know what that means? Cane."

"I don't want to be rhodes-drunk at my own wedding. How am I going to control myself?"

"Ok. No shooters, only Cane."

"Yeah, we definitely need more Cane."

* * * * *

and just so you know,

there was plenty of cane.

and also - plenty of nakedness,

Thanks Rafe.

Love this post! As a fellow Rhodes student, I have plenty of good (and bad) memories of cane and creamsoda on Wednesdays from the union.

Oh my goodness, the first time I went to Cape Town, my UCT housemate took me to her friends great house party further down the coast. It was a great week (yep, a week long party, we UCTers also party!) BUT I'd never tried cane before, we just dont drink it in England.

And I played the Roxanne/Put on the red light drinking song with cane *with cream soda*. I've not drunk cream soda since :)

With havin so much written content do you ever run into any issues of
plagorism or copyright infringement? My site has a lot of exclusive content I've either authored myself or outsourced but it appears a lot of it is popping it up all over the internet without my authorization. Do you know any techniques to help reduce content from being stolen? I'd certainly appreciate it.
