rusks || via Pinterest, originally from Getaway Blog
I have a lovely Mom,
She's as sweet as toffee
She makes delicious rusks
which are PERFECT for your coffee.
When I was home in SA
just not too long ago
she packed a batch of rusks
in my bag to go
I traveled with these rusks
across the world so wide
all the way to Wimbledon,
where we currently reside.
Me and husband dear
have been feasting on these delights
Although we try to savour them -
each and every bites!
I've been monitoring these rusks
because with every little chew
our bellies get so happy
but the bag gets few and few.
We are currently nearing the end
- I'd say it's "a code red"
I'm starting to think of alternatives
to dunk in my coffee instead.
I really shouldn't panic because
we have about six remaining
So to ween myself off of them
I've tried some light abstaining.
It really doesn't work though -
because they are so delicious
and packed full with All Bran flakes
so in (some ways) so nutritious!
Husband thinks I should learn
to make these rusks divine,
But given my cooking record
I very politely decline
He says that they will be
so delicious - A real tasty HIT!
I say "Are you serious?
I can't cook for shit."
The mom is quite "famous"
in our little town
for her tasty rusks -
so delicious golden brown.
I don't need the fame
or the RUSK BAKER CROWN
I'd just like more rusks please -
with my coffee, slippers, gown.
If you are good at baking,
and live in my postal code -
POP OVER FOR SOME COFFEE!
(and bring a little load)
I shall update you all
on our tasty rusk demise
i doubt it will be necessary
since you'll probably hear my cries.
An ode to Mom's rusks -
so ends my little story
We'll miss you little rusks
in all your dunking glory.

lovely! I really missed rusks while I was in the US. Hope your mom gets the message to send some more over ;)
i thought i would send a "subtle hint"
I always just thought they were a baby food, I didn't even know adults could eat them (which, now I've said it out loud, sounds rather ridiculous!!) If I could, I'd bake and send you some :) I certainly hope your Mum picks up on the subtleness :p
RUSKS are for EVERYONE!! :) haha yes mom.... *nudge nudge*
I've never heard of them but they look quite tasty!! They sound very complicated what with the twice baking thing, I'd be scared to attempt it too.
no you should try and bake some rusks - they are DELICIOUS!!! perfect for cold weather coffee-dunking!!
They are a lot of shops that sell ouma rusks in Wimbledon - not the same as homebaked of course but an option
All bran in your Mom's rusks Che?
My FIL2B has sent me his recipe and I will break in new oven with ittt...hmmm....Thursday night whilst we're touring the Hook Norton brewery. Will use rusks to soak up much needed tea the day after brewery time.
haha GET BAKIN' girl!
Hahaha! Love this and have to agree - your mom's rusks are pretty amazing. If Andy's mum comes over soon, I'll visit your mum, collect and send them back with her :)
yes do that. I will love you forever - even longer than Andrew will.
I have already sussed out these shops... (and bought a few "sample boxes") alas - just NOT quite the same. hahaha :)
You gonna have to make them stretch till the 15th of December and ill bring some over with me sibling, I'll ask mom dearest to make a double stack for you!
yes... EXCELLENT idea.
Ill bring some of mine when we finally set a coffee date!
YES!!!! i'm KEEEEEN!
Mmmm... I miss your mom's rusks too!!!
Get your mom's recipe (unless it's secret), and blog it for us. You and Warr can make them together for the tutorial. It will be adorable. And, that way, we can ALL send you rusks! (See how selfless that request was...?)
